1. A Spoonful of Sugar (Mary Poppins)

College Interpretation: 21st century drinking anthem.

For every job that must be done, there is an element of fun…This catchy song should be a musical drinking manual for college kids everywhere.  Think about it: “Just a small can of Redbull helps the vodka go down!” Perfect. Same idea.  Is it a stretch to consider drinking to be a “job that must be done”?  Yes, but you get the point.

2. Can You Feel The Love Tonight (The Lion King)

College Interpretation: Flirting across the bar.

I can see what’s happening… You, Nala, have spotted Simba at the bar.  You’ve been doing that whole awkward stare-at-each-other thing all night and it’s about time for Timon, Pumba, and everyone else in this dirty, over-crowded jungle go home, so you guys need to chat ASAP.  Make your move.

3. So This Is Love (Cinderella)

College Interpretation: Food sent from heaven.

This is what makes life divine.   Upon impact with your mouth, the first bite of your Chipotle burrito sends you into an upward spiral into the clouds.  You’ve dreamt about this joyous union all week and it’s even better than you could’ve ever imagined possible.  This, my friends, is the love that Cinderella sings about, and it only cost $9.

4. Hakuna Matata (The Lion King)

College Interpretation: Do we even need one?

It means no worries for the rest of your days… Do we even need an explanation here? College is one big hoorah of the no-worry attitude (that is, until graduation and college loans kick in.  Then you’ll probably have some worries, I’m not going to lie.)

5. Part Of Your World (The Little Mermaid)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IOqRLR3Oug&w=584&h=390]

College Interpretation: Freshmen have it rough.

This is an ode to underage college students everywhere.  Someday, when you’ve paid your dues and moved up in the ranks, you will be allowed into the bars.  But for now, you’ll have to settle for catching glimpses of the fun happening without you as your hot breath fogs the outside of the cold glass windows.  You wanna be where the people are, but we just don’t think you’re ready for the big leagues yet.

6. Bare Necessities (The Jungle Book)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ogQ0uge06o&w=584&h=390]

College Interpretation:  You don’t need much.

You find out you can live without it and go on not thinkin’ about it… You may not have cable, paper towels, or a functioning doorknob on your bathroom door but it’s all good!  All you need is a couple packs of ramen and semi-running water and you’re good to go for at least a week, right?  It also doesn’t hurt to have a friend or two with an on-campus meal plan.

7. I’ve Got No Strings (Pinocchio)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAykOz1gWi4&w=584&h=390]

College Interpretation: Single and lovin’ it.

Look out, world, because there are no strings on you!  You’ve decided to kiss relationships goodbye for a while and there isn’t anyone to hold you back now!  Cue the upbeat violin solo, because there’s nothing stopping you from a good time. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
