Taylor Swift Might Star In A Remake Of ‘The Bodyguard’
A 'Bodyguard' remake is in the works with the director of 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour'.
The Bodyguard is an iconic 1992 romantic thriller/drama starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. In addition to being a great movie, the film’s soundtrack became one of the best selling soundtrack albums of all time and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. Now, a Bodyguard remake is in the works with the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Will Taylor star?
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film was directed by Sam Wrench. It was a critical and commercial hit, making $261.7 million against a $15 million budget. Eras Tour was also notable for circumventing the typical distribution strategy (going through a studio) and releasing directly to theaters. Given the massive success of this Sam Wrench/Taylor Swift project, it seems likely the two may collaborate again.

Whoever plays the lead role in The Bodyguard will have to be a remarkably talented singer to stand in the shoes of Whitney Houston as fictional superstar singer/actress Rachel Marron. The movie’s most famous song is the notoriously hard to sing “I Will Always Love You”. Other hits featured in The Bodyguard include “I Have Nothing”, “Queen of the Night”, “I’m Every Woman” and “Run to You”.
Swift has dabbled in acting with roles in Valentine’s Day (2010), The Giver (2014) and the musical film Cats (2019). She has also talked about being a huge fan of Whitney Houston. Kevin Costner’s status as a Swiftie may also help this dream casting. After taking his daughter to The Eras Tour he wrote on his Instagram “I was absolutely blown away watching her art bring so many people together… An inspiring night. I’m officially a Swiftie!” Model Tyra Banks also expressed that Swift would be perfect casting for the lead, with Idris Elba playing the bodyguard.
Previously, a sequel to The Bodyguard was being made with Diana, Princess of Wales (who was a friend of Kevin Costner) set to star. However, Diana died just one day after a first draft of the script was finished. The sequel was then cancelled.
Swift has not yet responded to rumors that she may take on the role of Rachel Marron. The Bodyguard remake is still in the early stages of development, and so far only Sam Wrench and Broadway musical writer Jonathan Abrams are attached to it.
