A New ‘Tremors’ Movie Is In Development — And Kevin Bacon May Return
Bacon has said Tremors is the one franchise he would like to return to: "This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?"
Tremors is a beloved 90s horror comedy that was a box office flop, but gained a cult following through its home video release and frequent airings on cable TV. It was one of the most rented films of the decade and inspired six sequels. Now, the original team who made Tremors has regained ownership over the film rights and are looking to return to Perfection, Nevada for a fresh sequel.
Tremors starred Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (RIP) as two knuckleheaded best friends and handymen, Val and Earl, living in the small town of Perfection, which is isolated from neighboring towns by the Great Basin Desert. Just as the friends plan to move somewhere more exciting, a series of mysterious deaths lead to the discovery of giant, man-eating underground worms. The worms hunt based on detecting vibrations on the Earth’s surface, endangering anyone moving around in Perfection.

The original team behind Tremors is director Ron Underwood and producers Brent Maddock and S. S. Wilson. All three wrote the screenplay together and subsequently formed Stampede Entertainment to release the franchise’s first three sequels. Stampede has now re-acquired the rights to make a new Tremors sequel.
The new Tremors film will not be a remake. The film will likely have a “return to Perfection” theme and they hope to attract Kevin Bacon back to the franchise. Bacon was only a part of the original Tremors but previously expressed a desire to return, even filming a pilot for a Universal/Blumhouse Tremors television series in 2018. Unfortunately, the pilot was not picked up.
Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality… Although we made a fantastic pilot (IMHO) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for GRABOIDS!
