7 Parker Posey Movies To Watch If You Really Need A Lorazepam

I'll introduce you to some respectable films. They would eat you up.

Parker Posey became the breakout star of this season of The White Lotus by playing a Southern scion aghast at her daughter’s interest in Buddhism and her absent supply of Lorazepam. However, Victoria Ratliff is only the most recent of many, many, many deliriously funny roles for the actress. Since no one is meant to live an uncomfortable life at this age, keep the laughter going with these hysterical Parker Posey movies.

Parker Posey’s performance as an elated hazer of freshman girls is something literally everyone would enjoy watching.

Dazed and Confused (1993). In her breakout role, Posey plays an unhinged bratty high school senior, Darla Marks, who leads her classmates in hazing incoming freshman girls. After being forced to lay in a hot parking lot, the hazing victims are covered in ketchup and mustard by a gleeful Darla and her friends. Posey ad-libbed her character’s most well-known line “What are you looking at? Wipe that face off your head, bitch.”

Like Victoria Ratliff, Parker’s Party Girl character enjoys “a nice, powerful, mind-altering substance. Preferably one that will make my unborn children grow gills.”

Party Girl (1995). Posey stars as Mary, a New York City party girl with a heart of gold. In order to repay her godmother for bail money (for hosting an illegal rave, what else?), Mary works for her at a library where she struggles with the Dewey Decimal system. Even if it weren’t a great movie (which it is), Party Girl is worth watching for the fashion and soundtrack alone.

Director Mark Waters called House of Yes “part Gothic revenge drama, part contemporary psychological thriller, and extremely funny.”

The House of Yes (1997). This black comedy appeals directly to White Lotus fans as Posey portrays a wealthy young woman who is not only convinced she is Jackie O — she’s also in love with her twin brother. When her brother brings home his girlfriend to tell the family he is engaged, the home descends into comedic madness.

Libby Mae Brown knowns she’ll always have a place at the Dairy Queen.

Waiting for Guffman (1997). One of five Christopher Guest collaborations with Parker Posey, this mockumentary follows an ensemble cast of amateur actors in a small town who learn a Broadway producer will be attending a performance of their musical. Posey plays Libby Mae Brown, a Dairy Queen employee and one of the musical’s leads. Viewers with a dry sense of humor (think Arrested Development meets What We Do in the Shadows) will die laughing.

Parker Posey steals the show when she and Tom Hanks get trapped in an elevator in You’ve Got Mail.

You’ve Got Mail (1998). Posey doesn’t have a lead role in this movie, but if Victoria Ratliff lived in New York City and worked in publishing, she’d be Patricia Eden in You’ve Got Mail. Eden is the girlfriend of Tom Hanks’ character. The two breakup after getting trapped in an elevator together. While Hanks uses the time to seriously contemplate his life, Patricia expresses frustration over losing her Tic Tacs.

Posey’s character is irate when a pet store does not have her dog’s favorite Busy Bee toy.

Best in Show (2000). Parker Posey’s funniest Christopher Guest role (in my humble opinion) comes from this mockumentary about a highly competitive dog show. Posey plays a yuppie helicopter parent to her weimaraner Beatrice. From sending the dog to psychotherapy to her devotion to ensuring Beatrice has her favorite Busy Bee toy, this character is the final boss of dog moms.

Perhaps Victoria Ratliff was talking about Jennifer Jolie when she said “Actresses are all basically prostitutes… If they’re lucky. Am I right?”

Scream 3 (2000). This slasher horror movie isn’t Posey’s typical genre but she perfectly plays up the comedic elements of the Scream franchise. Posey’s character is Jennifer Jolie, an actress who plays Gale Weathers in the fictional production of Stab 3. Over on Creepy Catalog, we love Jennifer Jolie so much we’ve taken the liberty of creating some thought starters on how to bring her character back for Scream 7.
