A ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel May Be In The Works

"I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

Jennifer’s Body (2009) is a feminist comedy horror movie that is a beloved cult classic. It stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried as two high school best friends whose relationship is tested when one of them becomes demonically possessed. One of the film’s stars is now teasing fans that a sequel might be coming.

At a Toronto screening of her film Seven Veils, Amanda Seyfried told a fan “I think we’re making another one.” When asked if she was confirming a sequel, Seyfried quickly demurred, saying she is not confirming anything. However, she followed that statement with a wink and said “We’re working on it!”

The exchange was posted to the fan’s TikTok:

Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody has previously stated she wants to make a sequel. In 2024 she wrote Lisa Frankenstein, which she says takes place in the same universe as Jennifer’s Body. While promoting the film, she told Bloody Disgusting: “YES! I wanna do a sequel… I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

Cody’s statement reflects the reality of finding funding for female-led projects in Hollywood. While connected male filmmakers who make poor performing movies (or in an extreme case, have gone to jail for assaulting an underage actor on their set) are often rewarded with funding for their next projects, female filmmakers struggle to find this support even after creating successful films.
