Four New Thrillers Released Today, April 11, Including ‘Drop’ And ‘Shadow of God’

By

The biggest horror/thriller movie release day this week was Tuesday, April 8th. But today, Friday April 11th, might prove to be a quality over quantity situation. Four new horror movies and horror-adjacent thrillers came out today, and they all look good.

From the killer date in Christopher Landon’s Drop, to the video-game-inspired supernatural action horror of Home Sweet Home: Rebirth, this batch of new movies looks like a lot of fun. For even more new horror, complete with links to watch, take a look at my always-updated New & Upcoming Horror Movies tracker.

Drop

Drop is Christopher Landon’s first movie as a director since We Have a Ghost (2023).

For viewers who enjoy: tense thrillers, dating drama, director Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day)

Violet (Meghann Fahy) is nervous about her date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar). She’s a widow and a mother, and she hasn’t tried to connect with someone on a romantic level in a very long time. As the date gets underway, Violet receives phone messages from an anonymous source. The messages become increasingly sinister, instructing her to do terrible things, including to kill Henry. If she doesn’t follow orders, or if she tries to get help, her son and sister will be killed.

Marshmallow

Marshmallow is currently in a limited theatrical release, so you might have to dig to find showtimes near you.

For viewers who enjoy: summer camp horror, sci-fi horror

Twelve-year-old Morgan (Kue Lawrence) doesn’t want to go to summer camp. His apprehensions turn out to be more appropriate than he could have imagined when a mad doctor from a campfire story begins stalking the campers. With a dark tone and the promise of mind-bending twists, Marshmallow looks like it could be the most interesting movie released this week.

Shadow Of God

Star Mark O’Brien might be best known by horror fans for his role as Alex in Ready or Not (2019).

For viewers who enjoy: exorcism movies, religious horror

An exorcist, Mason Harper (Mark O’Brien), returns to his hometown and finds that his supposedly deceased father is alive. Not only that, but his father is possessed. But as Mason attempts an exorcism, he starts to realize that what is in possession of his father is not at all what he expected.

Home Sweet Home: Rebirth

Home Sweet Home: Rebirth is inspired by the video game franchise Home Sweet Home.

For viewers who enjoy: video game adaptations, apocalyptic supernatural action horror

Hell breaks loose in Bangkok when a demon arrives from another realm through a mystical gate. The people of the city become possessed by an evil force from the demon’s realm, and only Jake—an American police officer on vacation with his wife and daughter—can close the gateway and stop the invasion.
