Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) gets a new 4K release from Criterion today!

6 Best New Blu-Ray Releases For The Week Of March 18th, 2025

Deadly monsters and creepy supernatural horror make up this week's best new releases on physical media.

By

Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Limited Edition 4K UHD

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
Deep Blue Sea was directed by Renny Harlin, director of Die Hard 2 (1990), The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), The Strangers: Chapter 1 (2024), and many more genre films.

Distributor: Arrow Video

It’s probably safe to say that Deep Blue Sea is the most beloved shark film of the 1990s. It’s a B-movie with a decent budget, blending action, sci-fi, and horror into one completely entertaining shark film. If you’re a fan and you already own the movie on disc, you still might want to consider an upgrade. This 4K release from Arrow Video features tons of bonus features including three commentaries (two of which are new for this release), a new interview and video essay, archival featurettes, a sixty-page book, postcards, and a double-sided poster.

The Last of Us: The Complete First Season (2023)

4K UHD SteelBook

The Last of Us (2023)
Season two of The Last of Us premieres on Max on April 13th, 2025.

Distributor: SDS

Less than a month before the release of the second season of The Last of Us, you can own the first season on 4K in a newly-released SteelBook. The bonus features appear to be the same as the previous Blu-ray and 4K releases, but if you’re a SteelBook collector, you’ll want to add this to your collection. The new artwork used for the cover of this release is excellent.

Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)

4K UHD + Blu-ray Special Edition

Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)
Godzilla struggles against Biollante’s tendrils in one of the classic battles seen in Godzilla vs. Biollante.

Distributor: Criterion

Godzilla returns (again) to battle a giant, goopy plant in this, the second film of Godzilla’s Heisei era! Biollante is a great and unique adversary among Godzilla’s enemies, and the movie is a favorite among fans. Godzilla vs. Biollante has been released on Blu-ray, but prices on that version have risen over the years. But now you can get a newly restored 4K version with some new bonus features for less than you’d probably pay for the older Blu-ray!

Wolf Man (2025)

Limited Edition 4K UHD SteelBook

Wolf Man (2025)
Wolf Man isn’t as impressive as Whannell’s previous Universal Monster reimagining, The Invisible Man (2020), but it’s still a fun monster movie.

Distributor: SDS

Director Leigh Whannell’s new take on the classic Universal monster comes home in four different versions. The most appealing for collectors might be the 4K SteelBook, but you can also get the film in a non-SteelBook 4K edition, on Blu-ray, and on DVD. All four versions contain the same bonus features, including feature commentary by Whannell, and multiple featurettes.

Evil Dead (2013)

Wal-Mart Exclusive 4K UHD SteeBook

Evil Dead (2013)
Many fans are still hoping for Jane Levy’s return to the Evil Dead franchise.

Distributor: Shout Factory

Wal-Mart has an exclusive version of Shout Factory’s excellent Evil Dead release! The new artwork on the SteelBook is an iconic image of the film’s finale complete with chainsaw and blood rain. The special features for this release aren’t listed on Wal-Mart’s store page, but if they’re the same as Shout’s previous 4K release of Evil Dead, then you’ll be getting the theatrical cut (with optional commentary), the unrated cut, and five featurettes.

Devils Stay (2024)

Blu-ray, DVD

Devils Stay (2024)
Devils Stay began streaming in late February.

Distributor: Well Go USA

Devils Stay is a South Korean exorcism film about a young woman who might not be as dead as she seems. The movie was recently released on digital platforms, but now you can own it for real, and watch it in better quality on Blu-ray. It’s also available on DVD, but the price of the DVD is only a few dollars cheaper at the moment, so Blu-ray is the way to go.
