Spooky New Trailer Feels Like ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Meets ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’
Mixing the occult, curses, and isolation horror, the trailer for Rosario makes a strong impression.
The movie is about Rosario Fuentes, a Wall Street stockbroker who is called to her grandmother’s apartment after her sudden death. A severe snowstorm descends on the city, trapping Rosario in the apartment complex, and forcing her to stay with her grandmother’s dead body while she waits for an ambulance.
Throughout the night, she uncovers occult family secrets that go back generations. Her family’s curse has already taken her grandmother, and now a supernatural force threatens to take Rosario as well. Check out the full trailer for Rosario below:
The idea of being trapped in a run-down apartment while suffering attacks from vicious supernatural forces was handled excellently in 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. The trailer for Rosario exudes a similar, terrifying feeling.
Also, the thought of spending the night with a dead body and discovering its occult connections is a bit like The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), and maybe even a little like “The Empty Wake” segment from V/H/S/94 (2021). If Rosario is anything like any of those films, it’s going to be fantastic!
Rosario is a feature-film directing debut of Colombian filmmaker Felipe Vargas. The script was written by Alan Trezza who penned the entertaining We Summon the Darkness (2019). The striking visuals seen in the trailer are thanks to cinematographer Carmen Cabana who previously worked on projects including Ms. Marvel (2022) and Netflix’s Resident Evil (2022).
Emeraude Toubia stars as Rosario. David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, The Last Voyage of the Demeter) co-stars as a neighbor within the apartment building.
Rosario opens in theaters on May 2, 2025.
