Dead Talents Society and Holland are just two of the many new horror films released this week.

11 New Horror Movies Streaming This Week (March 28)

By

The final full week of March is another big one for new horror!

In addition to Death of a Unicorn and The Woman in the Yard releasing exclusively in theaters today, these eleven horror and thriller movies began streaming during the week of March 22-28. If you’re looking for suggestions, my favorites so far this week are Dead Talents Society and Cannibal Mukbang.

The Rule of Jenny Pen

The Rule of Jenny Pen began streaming on Shudder on March 28th.

For viewers who enjoy: Dark Psychological Thrillers, Unsettling Horror

This Shudder Original psychological thriller stars John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush as two residents of a nursing home. Rush is Stefan, a stern judge who suffers a stroke which necessitates his move into the care facility. There, Stefan meets Dave (Lithgow) who torments his fellow residents with bizarre behavior and a creepy baby-doll puppet.

Cannibal Mukbang

Cannibal Mukbang started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 25th.

For viewers who enjoy: Romantic Horror, Cannibals

Cannibal Mukbang is a highly entertaining cannibal love story. It begins with a meet-cute in a convenience store. Ash and Mark connect over pizza-flavored chips, and they soon fall for each other. As they get closer, Mark begins to understand that Ash has a voracious appetite for a very specific type of food. When he learns what Ash is actually eating during her mukbang sessions (and how she acquires her food), will their love survive the horrifying surprise?

Dead Talents Society

Dead Talents Society began streaming on Netflix on March 27th.

For viewers who enjoy: Taiwanese Films, Supernatural Comedies, Emotional Revelations

Dead Talents Society is a fantastic horror comedy with heart. It’s about a ghost with no apparent talent for haunting, and no true desire to get any better. But in this afterlife, if a ghost isn’t scaring people, they will eventually cease to exist. This sad rookie is taken in by a former ghostly superstar and her manager, but they have a lot of work to do if they hope to turn this rookie into a superstar before she disappears forever. Dead Talents Society hilariously satires film and influencer culture, and it is surprisingly emotional.

Holland

Holland began streaming on Prime Video on March 27th.

For viewers who enjoy: Mysteries, Relationship Drama, Dark Twists

Nancy (Nicole Kidman) lives with her husband Fred and son Harry in the idealistic town of Holland, Michigan. Everything is perfect, or so it seems. Nancy begins to suspect that Fred is having an affair, so she enlists the aid of a friend from work, Dave (Gael García Bernal), to help her learn the truth. Holland has an interesting setup and is directed well by Mimi Cave (2022’s Fresh), though the discoveries in the latter part of the movie might be underwhelming to viewers.

Mouseboat Massacre

Mouseboat Massacre started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 28th.

For viewers who enjoy: Public Domain Characters, Slashers, Low-Budget Horror

Yes, this is another Steamboat Willie slasher movie. In this one, a woman battling drug addiction watches a cursed tape that unleashes a killer man-mouse, and people around the young woman begin dying. I haven’t watched this one yet, but the trailer looks violent enough to maybe worth a look.

Renner

Renner started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 28th.

For viewers who enjoy: AI Thrillers, Frankie Muniz (who stars as Renner)

Renner is a genius who develops an AI life coach that helps him become more confident and get close to the woman he likes. But is this woman really who she seems to be, and is the AI getting too manipulative towards Renner?

The Wild

The Wild started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 28th.

For viewers who enjoy: Isolation Horror, Psychological Thrillers

Three friends attempt to reconnect on their annual camping trip after the death of their mutual friend. As suspicions begin to surface, their already tenuous friendships begin to unravel.

Invader

Invader started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 25th.

For viewers who enjoy: Home Invasion Movies, Brutal Shockers

Ana travels to visit her cousin Camila in the suburbs of Chicago, but when she arrives at the bus station, Camila isn’t there to meet her. Ana can’t reach Camila by phone either, and as she travels across town, her bad feeling about the situation gets even worse. When she finally arrives at Camila’s home, she finds her worries justified.

Livestream

Livestream started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 25th.

For viewers who enjoy: Screenlife/Found Footage, Murder Mysteries

Livestream follows a group of influencers staying at a cabin in the woods. We watch the action through the livestream of a streamer named Mia who is hoping to reach one million viewers tonight. As the viewer count climbs, a murder occurs. The livestream now becomes a record of what is happening as Mia and her “friends” try to escape with their lives. Livestream is a bit drawn-out at times, but some clever ideas pop up later in the movie.

Operation Undead

Operation Undead started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 25th.

For viewers who enjoy: War Movies, Films from Thailand, Zombies

During World War II, Japan invades Thailand, bringing with them the subject of a monstrous military experiment. The subject escapes and infects some of the Thai soldiers, turning them into zombies. But these aren’t necessarily mindless, flesh-eating monsters. The soldiers retain a degree of their pre-zombie consciousness, making Operation Undead a unique spin on the usual zombie/war movie.

Shadow of the Wolf

Shadow of the Wolf started streaming on TVOD platforms on March 25th.

For viewers who enjoy: Werewolves, Italian Horror

Though it debuted at festivals back in 2018, Shadow of the Wolf finally has a streaming release in North America. The story is set in a town in Italy where a series of brutal murders has occurred. Nico, recently returning to his former hometown, fears that he might be involved in the slayings, but his investigation reveals secrets that go back years.
