I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House

This Netflix Original Horror Movie Is Criminally Underrated

By

Oz Perkins became a household name after directing the 2024 box-office hit Longlegs, ranked third-best horror movie of 2024 by Creepy Catalog.

Less than a year later, Perkins delivered another blockbuster with The Monkey. Following these successes, even his 2015 debut film, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, began attracting a wider audience after it went viral on Netflix.

While Perkins’ slow-burn style and occasionally awkward writing don’t appeal to everyone, he’s undoubtedly carved out his niche. Despite this popularity, his second film—the Netflix original I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House—remains the least hyped of his work.

But more than any of his other movies, I Am the Pretty Thing stands out as one of the best atmospheric horror films of the 2010s. It’s an exceptional ghost story structured like a Shirley Jackson novel, allowing dread to settle slowly and deeply, lingering well after the film ends. If you love horror or even enjoy Oz Perkins but somehow skipped this film, click into Netflix now and give it a stream.
