Never Sacrifice How You Live Your Life To Keep Someone Else Happy

Don’t alter your lifestyle in order to please others – not for your friends or your parents or your boss. Don’t change who you are to be someone you’re not in order to keep them happy.

Don’t do something you hate every single day of your life just to pay the bills when it’s completely draining you. Don’t stay with someone who treats you poorly and doesn’t love you like they should just because you’re scared to be alone. Don’t have crappy sex with the same person because you’re scared to tell them what you want in bed. Don’t skip out on going to college because you don’t think you’re smart enough when all you want is to be a doctor.

You are bright and brilliant; you shouldn’t spend your life living half-heartedly.

If you’re unhappy leave, you’re allowed to pack up and start over. You’re allowed to adjust to a lifestyle that makes you happy. You are allowed to do things for you and put yourself first. In fact, you should always put yourself first.

I don’t mean in a greedy way, but I mean put your mental health before your job. Put the change back in your pocket instead of in the donation box if it’s all you have left and you need food. Don’t do something you feel obligated to in order to make someone else happy when you know you’re signing up to make yourself miserable.

You’re the only one who has to live your life, so why waste it doing something that doesn’t bring you pleasure? You deserve to be happy; I truly believe everyone deserves to be happy – in whatever way happiness is to them.

You should never be afraid to take up space and be who you are. You should never feel ashamed or embarrassed of your appearance or personality. People love you for those things and it’d be a shame to hide them because of one person’s disapproval.

You should never sacrifice your own happiness in order to please someone else.

Love the things you love and the people you love. Be completely unashamed to be who you are because there is absolutely no reason to be ashamed of yourself.

You are brave and smart; you should lead a life that shows this of you. You shouldn’t spend your life buried away in paperwork at a desk if you know you have more in you. Don’t sell yourself short. Don’t settle for a mediocre life when you are aching for so much more.

You can achieve anything you want as long as you have a determined mind and a smart work ethic.

Pack up and start again if you’re unhappy. You can always get a second or third or fourth chance at starting over in life, there are no limits to the amount of do-overs you get, but you only get one life so make the most of it.

Start living for you. Start doing what makes you happy. If it doesn’t make you happy, let it go, whatever it is.

Live for you and only you, put yourself first and start living the life you’re dying to achieve. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
