And Sometimes We Lie And Say That We’ve Moved On
And maybe I say that I know better now but then I find myself forgetting everything I learned as I reach out to you.
By Rania Naim
And maybe I say I won’t call you
but I find myself dialing your number
on a random Tuesday afternoon.
And maybe I say I stopped caring
but I find myself watching your favorite show
wondering how you felt
when your favorite character died.
And maybe I say that I don’t need you in my life
but I find myself missing your arms when I’m all alone
knowing that you’re the only one
who could take the pain away.
And maybe I say that I won’t ask about you
but I find myself trying to find out
how you’re doing and if you’re okay.
And maybe I say that I don’t care about your happiness
but I find myself praying you find what you’re looking for,
praying that you never have to suffer again.
And maybe I say that I know better now
but then I find myself forgetting everything I learned
as I reach out to you.
And maybe I say I’m already over you
but then I find myself smiling each time
I hear a knock on my door
hoping that maybe this time
it will be you.
