This Fall, I’m Finally Letting Go

Jakob Owens

Fall is here — the leaves are changing
and so am I.
Parts of me are leaving
and parts of me are changing color.

This fall, I’m finally letting go
of the summer waves
and the summer flings
and everything that didn’t last.

This fall, I’m forgetting about winter
and the storms it brought
and the people it took away
and everything that wasn’t meant to be.

This fall, I’m going to remember spring.
I’m going to be hopeful.
I’m going to bloom.
I’m going to find the light.

This fall, I’m finally letting go
of all the seasons that hurt me,
of all the storms I got stuck in,
of all the tears that dried my eyes.

This fall, I’m walking away
from people who make me cold,
from things that make my blood boil,
from stories I no longer want to be in.

This fall, I’m going to try harder,
to fall in love with myself again,
to fall in love with my life again,
to find my calm before I face the storms again. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
