Unfuck Yourself – The World Owes You Nothing

We are the wrecking balls of our own lives.

We are the wrecking balls of our own lives. We stand in the way of our own personal freedom and peace of mind, all because of our own selfish expectations and desires. Too many people are going about their daily lives as if the world owes them something, that somehow privilege is their birthright and they are superior to all. When in fact, no, the world owes nobody anything and this illusion destroys and separates, the oneness of humanity and steals the true meaning and magic of life. This planet was free from civilization for an infinitely long time. Take a look outside, do you really think it was all just made for you? Do you really think the universe cares about your shiny new car or your fancy dinner plates or whether you get the job you want?

Sorry to inform you, but life isn’t bothered with your artificial sense of value and importance in terms of your role here on planet earth – play it cool.

The solar system is almost 5 billion years old. Earth is roughly 4.5 billion years, and the modern human species has only been around a few hundred thousand years. We have evolved a lot since then, but we have a lot more to learn and realize in order to master and improve our self-hood, and comfortably ease ourselves into a natural state of being that is for the higher good of ourselves, the earth and everyone around is.

Self-awareness has evolved and opened our minds. We have psychologists to interpret and assign meaning to why we behave and act the way we do. Now, more than ever, people can make sense of emotion, rationalize fear, filter feelings that have been transmitted from one person to the next, and we know the importance of introspection – the examination or observation of one’s own mental and emotional processes. Meditation techniques and mindfulness classes are everywhere allowing us to do mental mind dumps and become more emotionally intelligent and aware of how and why we think and act the way we do, at the root cause, which enables us to change our ugly thought patterns and become unstuck and free our minds from automatic programming and the powerful influence of society, which is always trying to pull and guide us in one direction or another. This bounty of information is rescuing us from the self-destruction of ourselves.

As a whole, human beings are becoming more emotionally intelligent and self-aware.

That being said, there is nothing more liberating in this life than to realize how miniscule every single human being is. In the full spectrum of the universe, we are just tiny little specs of dust. We may as well be the size of a little ladybird or a cockroach as far the universe is concerned. We all have little worlds inside our minds full of internal conversations, beliefs, judgments, quotes, and philosophies to live by, not to mention rules. Our personal rule books, the ‘shoulds’ and the ‘should nots’ of a human, that we have either adapted from our cultural environment or if we are a little luckier, consciously composed ourselves.

Have you ever thought about the rules you live by? The chances are, you haven’t examined exactly how you play this game of life. Perhaps you’ve adapted someone else’s way of living without fully pondering what you were doing. It’s normal. Take some time to think about it, and then eradicate them. Abolish the same rules that you have been living with since you were 16, 18, 21 years old because you are not the same person anymore and if you want to grow, then you need new experiences and feelings of freedom from your self-made limitations and boundaries. Be spontaneous, do things that you don’t normally do, have fun and run from the monotonous, tedious ropes that have tied your feet together. Set a new pitch and tone to your life, and live as you were going to die tonight, because, in universe years, we all may as well be.

Unpredictable, unplanned and disappointing things happen in everyone’s life every day that we have no say over, sometimes it’s really difficult to accept that certain things just aren’t meant to be. Sometimes, there are no answers, just questions. However, one thing, I know for sure, is that every challenging situation serves an important purpose. These times offer you an opportunity to do some soul searching and make you a stronger person. This is why it is crucial not to resist these moments but accept them and grow through them. If you decide and convince yourself that you’re too special, and are entitled to more, you end up shooting yourself in the foot. I truly believe that one of the lessons we must learn in life is to simply, get over ourselves and our sense of entitlement, not because we don’t deserve to be happy, but because this leads to happiness.

To change your outside, external world, you must first change what is going on within you. When you let go of your formidable sense of importance, accept yourself and others as one, and learn to not take anything personally, wonderful things happen. You feel rejuvenated, you have a new perception of the world around you, more energy and exuberance for life that does not come in a materialistic form and above all, peace in your mind and heart.

‘Look at the stars. It won’t fix the economy. It won’t stop wars. It won’t give you flat abs, or better sex or even help you figure out your relationship and what you want to do with your life. But it’s important. It helps you remember that you and your problems are both infinitesimally small and conversely, that you are a piece of an amazing and vast universe.’ Thought Catalog Logo Mark
