Give Yourself Permission To Let Go

God & Man

You’re holding on—to people, to the past, to the mistakes you’ve made that you drag around like heavy garbage behind you, to all the things that could have been, to what’s so far in the past it’s hardly recognizable.

You’re exhausting yourself—with every passing day your burdens gets heavier, your mind becomes weaker, your heart beats slower and you lose your footing just a little more.

You’re letting yourself be controlled by the circumstances of this imperfect life. You’re blaming yourself for things you cannot change, or people you couldn’t make stay. You are hurting yourself, beating yourself up for all the things you could have done better. You’re breaking your own heart. And you don’t deserve that kind of pain.

This life is too short and too imperfect for you to walk around with your head hanging so low. You are too incredible of a person, too big a gift to shrug your shoulders and have tears falling from your eyes.

Give yourself permission to let go.

Let go of all the pain that has been brought into your life, all the events that have shattered you, that have weakened you, that have shaped and changed you. Let them go.

Know that pain is a part of the journey and that healing will come. Remind yourself that you are stronger than any obstacle. Tell yourself that you are loved and will get through.

Let go of all the heartache. Let go of the people who couldn’t stay, who didn’t love you how you needed to be loved, who chose themselves selfishly, rather than putting what they could into the relationship with you. Let go of the heartbreak that has been eating away at your chest. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made in connecting with someone else, for the foolishness in giving your heart to the wrong person, for all the ways they broke you when you believed and saw the best in them.

Let go of the fear of the unknown, of the doubt, of the uncertainty. Let go of the situations you cannot control, of the circumstances you have no power to change. Be guided by faith, by trust, by fate, by the simple belief that life moves according to its own plan. Allow what is meant to happen to fall naturally around you and stop trying to fight what is and what will be.

Let go.

Forgive yourself to find healing. Say goodbye to the pain that has been pushing down on your heart and leave room for happiness to fill you once again.

You don’t have to live your life feeling empty, feeling torn down, feeling like something is missing. You don’t have to walk around with tired hands, with swollen eyes, with a heart that barely knows how to beat on its own.

You are a powerful person, a beautiful soul, a human with the capacity to heal and grow and change. And this is your chance, once you decide to let go of all that is holding you back.

So give yourself permission. Allow yourself to start over, to move on, to put the past behind you and focus your face forward. Let yourself open, trust, forgive.

Let yourself be loved—by yourself, and by others who will soon cross your path.

You don’t have to spend your life being so guarded, so hurt by the past, so negatively changed because of what happened to you. Your life is too precious to waste in sorrow. So open your eyes and your heart, let go, and give yourself permission to begin again. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
