Sasha Obama Missed Her Father’s Farewell Speech Last Night For This Very Relatable Reason

This is too real.

Last night President Barack Obama gave a farewell address that moved millions of his supporters to tears.

Democracy does not require uniformity. Our founders argued, quarreled, eventually they compromised. And they expected us to do the same. But they knew that democracy does require a basic sense of solidarity. The idea that for all our outward differences, we are all in this together. We all rise and fall as one.

— Barack Obama, farewell address

But one question people had immediately, is where was his daughter Sasha?

His wife Michelle was in the audience, as was his daughter Malia and BFF Vice President Joe Biden — but no Sasha.

Obama spoke glowingly of his family in his farewell remarks:

Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion. You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I’ve done in my life, I’m most proud to be your dad.

But where was Sasha? Both Malia and Sasha ditched the 2016 Democratic Convention where their parents spoke, but apparently Sasha wasn’t able to attend her father’s farewell speech in Chicago because… wait for it… she had to study for an exam.

That’s what I call dedication to studies! If my father were President, I’d probably be using that as an excuse to get out of a lot of exams to be honest!

But Sasha has rarely allowed her father’s Presidency to get in the way of her personal goals! Indeed, last summer she got a summer job in order to grow herself and get professional experience.

Also, let’s just take a minute to look at how Obama’s kids have grown up over the last 8 years??

A warm farewell to the Obama family, and good luck to Sasha on her exams! Thought Catalog Logo Mark
