To My Best Friend: You Deserve Better

I’ve known you for quite a while now and you have been nothing but sweet. You certainly don’t deserve how you’re being treated, and to be honest I think you’d be better off without your other half. (I wanted to use the word better half but… that doesn’t apply here)

I don’t get why people do this — get into a relationship they’re unsure of and then treat the other person like shit.

It’s simple, if you like them, good. Treat them the way you’d like to be treated and treasure them. Love them with all your heart. And if you don’t, then don’t lead them on, don’t give them false hopes, just cut it short. I don’t get it, what’s so hard about it? Come on, it’s not rocket science.

I asked you to give me your reasons to tell me why you’re still hanging onto something that only brings you down, and you gave me reasons that weren’t valid. Every excuse you gave me, I could knock it down with reason. If you told me she made you happy, I would have left it at that, but she doesn’t.

Like my dad always said, some relationships are easier to just cut then build.

For this case, cut. You don’t need someone like that in your life, you really don’t. You bring someone into your life to bring you joy, not to give you hell…. but that’s all she’s been giving you. Even an outsider can see you’re going through so much. You take it all in and you don’t say a word, but your friends, know what you’re going through and we hate seeing you this way. No matter what the outcome and choice, I know you know we are always going to be here for you.

I keep telling everyone you are one of the nicest person I have ever known and you deserve nothing but the best. Don’t undermine your own worth. Anyone can treat you better than how you’re being treated right now. I was never supportive of this from the start, although I should have been. I said, give and take 6 months, but I had to be there for you always, like you were for me through my difficult relationship. So I sat and watched how everything progressed, and I’ve kept quiet about it for the longest time. But now I can’t sit back and watch you get yourself into something that will hurt you so much.

I am your best friend and I will always be here for you. I will always have your back, just like how I know you will always have mine. Always.

Everything you told me when I was going through a tough time, I give them back to you now. No one knows your situation better than you do, and the rest of us can’t say much, but I hope you make the right choice. Make the right choice and be happy.

I don’t know, I hope you’d just wake up one day (hopefully tomorrow) and realize she’s not the one for you and you deserve so so so much better. And then, I’ll be happy for you. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
