10 ISFJs Explain The Ways In Which They Defy The ISFJ Stereotype

"I love changes as long as they make sense, and I appreciate spontaneity even though I myself am not spontaneous."

ISFJs – or introverted, sensing, feeling judgers – are known for being nurturing, loyal and sometimes a bit of a pushover. But not every ISFJ fits this bill. Below, 10 ISFJs explain the ways in which they defy the habits that are commonly associated with their personality type.

1. “I’m funny (a bit of a goofball actually). I’m caring but not in a traditional sense – I look after my friends but have no interest in being a nurse, for example. I’m also creative (a writer). I’ve yet to see any ISFJ descriptions refer to ISFJ’s creativity apart from in an interior decorating sense (though I’d admittedly LOVE to do that too!)”

2. “I am not the “ISFJ feeling monster” that many stereotypes attempt to project. I tackle many of my problems with extreme amounts of logic and reasoning. Using my Ti to its fullest by complimenting my Si and Fe. Oh, and I don’t bake. At all.”

3. “I am a very social introvert. I also try to stand up for myself and say no to things sometimes.”

4. “I’m not a doormat. I am actually intuitive (I frequently mistype as INFJ). I am deeper than what you see on the surface. I analyze well. I’m not just a bundle of feelings who can’t think. I can think, and often come to the correct conclusion when analyzing authors for college classes, even when many of my peers do not. I often forget people’s birthdays, although I try to celebrate them. I’m very precise, and usually want everyone else to be precise, too. I’m not going to sacrifice that need for precision in exchange for harmony.”

5. “I feel like a stereotype is that ISFJ’s dislike change and need to take everything slowly. I love changes as long as they make sense, and I appreciate spontaneity even though I myself am not spontaneous. Sometimes I desire to rush into new things, and I open up to people easily in the right setting.”

6. “I don’t know what to do when people cry in front of me, even though ISFJs are supposed to be nurturers. I want to help, but I feel so awkward in situations like those.”

7. “Sometimes when I’m stressed, instead of withdrawing like normal, I start acting really loud and excitable and start making myself the centre of attention.”

8. “I’m incredibly loyal like any ISFJ, but one day after years I’ll just decide that I’ve had enough. And I’ll leave without a word and never look back.”

9. “I am an excellent public speaker. As long as I am prepared and know my audience, I can rile people up quite easily.”

10. “I like the idea of committing to things but sometimes I stress myself out when I am beginning something new because I am afraid I will let people down, so I end up quitting things before I really give them a chance. For this reason, I have switched careers three times already and I am only in my mid-twenties!” Thought Catalog Logo Mark
