1. You’ll share unforgettable moments

While traveling solo can be one of the most rewarding, inspiring and empowering activities you can do in your life, traveling with the person you love can be one of the most memorable experiences of discovery and sharing you can possibly have. Traveling always puts us to the test and adds to our lives. It’s one of the best investments we can possibly do and when we travel with our better half, that investment doubles. And I’m not talking about all inclusive resorts where you barely get out of your comfort zone, but a true adventurous trip. When you travel with your loved one, you will enrich your life together in many ways. You’ll be writing history, creating amazing moments and adventures to which you’ll always look back with humor and affection. Relationships are all about creating and growing, so is traveling.

2. You’ll discover parts of their personality that you wouldn’t at home

It’s nothing new that traveling will challenge us, will push us out of the comfort zone. This factor makes many aspects of our personalities to surface, some of which we’re not aware or familiar with. A great way to discover and explore each others personalities is when both of you are at neutral grounds, out of your comfort zones and having all your boundaries pushed. If you’re heading to a serious relationship, nothing’s better than having an adventurous travel with him/her before committing. Try to learn how your loved one reacts to challenges, frustration, sudden change of plans. Check out how supportive he is when your backpack becomes too heavy to carry during a trekking, how grumpy she gets when your train ride gets canceled or how humorous he can be when finding out that amazing guesthouse you booked online is actually a dump. These kind of situations will give you a pretty good example on how life will be with that person.

3. You can rediscover each other, all over again

If you’ve been in a long term relationship, whether it feels stuck or not, traveling will always open grounds to growth when you’re on the road. Routine can kill many relationships. The everyday life, the stress, the mortgage, the demanding boss — everything that can affect you negatively can be postponed while you’re traveling. So you’ll be presented with a brand new canvas in which you can paint a brand new picture.

I’ve done it myself. When my long term relationship fell apart, after many problems and little nurturing, we decided to take off to India for half a year and see if things would improve, away from our everyday life. It had almost reached the point of no return, but miraculously we managed to connect again during that long trip. Since we didn’t chose the easiest destination on earth, we had to support each other on the most nerve wrecking trip of our lives. That trip was the flipping point that rescued our relationship.

4. Traveling together will improve intimacy (and your sex life)

Lack of sexual or intimate interest by your partner is another consequence of routine and daily stresses. Many couples are driven apart because of the total lack of interest, to a point of no return.

Break from all the everyday constrains and head to an adventure trip somewhere. It doesn’t have to be a long or expensive one. Just get out of your bedroom, and try something new. Rent a winter cabin up In the mountains and enjoy a good wine by the fireplace. Maybe you need to soak in some sun at a tropical island. Go for a hike and maybe you’ll find a hidden spot in the nature where both of you can spend time together. Don’t let your flame die. Feed the fire while it’s still burning; no matter how low the flame is at the moment, there’s always hope. Traveling together forces you to give up your shyness and timidity in the spirit of exploration. Get adventurous together.

5. It’s nice to have company on those long train rides

Oh, those long train and bus rides. The check ins, the long lines, and all that time spent waiting at the airport. Those are the “dead moments” when you’ll be talking to each other a lot. You’ll be each other’s best company. Remember that nothing unifies a couple more than talking and camaraderie. When you’re talking to each other for hours, you’ll be bonding, and sharing expectations, hopes, and dreams. Many couples stop talking to each other after many years together. They routinely do their tasks, forgetting there’s a friend, a lover and a buddy right there. Fill up those boring dead moments with lively chats and laughter.

6. You’ll make new friends

Yes, make new friends! It’s so nice to meet new people who share the same interests in life. You’ll bump into so many likeminded folks along the way. Making new friends and meeting other traveling couples, can inspire you in many ways. You might get inspired by couples who keep their love fresh and fiery, despite all odds. Learn with others who might have a total unconventional life. Try to learn new skills on how to lead your love and relationship. I’ve noticed by experience, that couples who travel often, tend to stick together longer.

Remember that whatever point you find yourself in right now, is the result of your thoughts and actions. Start creating today what you want to have blossoming in your life tomorrow. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
