The Scariest True Crime Series Of The Year Proves Friday The 13th Is No Myth – And A New Episode Streams Tonight, October 8 On HBO Max
By Erin Whitten
Attention fans of all things macabre, The Friday the 13th Murders is a true crime docuseries you don’t want to miss. The Investigation Discovery and HBO Max-produced six-part series spotlights real murder and attack cases that all took place, or are connected to, the day most of us are too afraid to schedule anything ~ Friday the 13th. In fact, once you see what took place on these unlucky days, you might think twice before dismissing this infamous superstition.
Last Wednesday’s opening episode, Obsession to Do Evil, set the chilling bar high for the rest of the docuseries with a mesmerizing and tragic tale of a 19-year-old serial killer from Panhandle, Texas. The young man’s fixation with serial killers and Satanism soon snowballed into a bloodthirsty killing spree that would claim the lives of three innocent people and change the course of the town forever.
Episode two premieres tonight and, if the previews have been any indication, is sure to be another wild ride. In this episode, investigators are called to a private residence, where a family has been found dead on the ground of a mansion on a stormy night. In the family’s living room, detectives discover a bloody mask and a letter from the home’s master that details a reference to the demon of The Exorcist.
The series airs tonight on Investigation Discovery at 10 p.m. ET, and streams the same night on HBO Max and Discovery+. If you missed the first episode, now’s the perfect time to catch up before tonight’s new chapter. Each week promises another real-life tragedy that will make you rethink whether Friday the 13th is just a number, or a date cursed for good reason.
