The Same God That Forgave You Then, Forgives You Now

By

In moments of uncertainty or failure, we often question whether God’s love for us remains steadfast. Karin Hadadan, the best-selling author of Beauty in the Stillnesswrites about all the reasons and ways God’s love never wavers (even in moments we don’t feel we deserve His grace).

The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.

Exodus 34:6-7

Yet when we take in the words of this verse, we remember God’s own declaration of His character–compassionate, gracious, patient, loving, and forgiving. This self-revelation came after Israel’s failure in worshiping the golden calf, demonstrating that God’s love persists even in our darkest moments.

Today, remember that God’s nature doesn’t change with your circumstances, decisions or actions. Regardless of the season you’re in or the emotions in your heart, His love is a constant force, even in moments where you may feel unworthy of it. If you need grace, He will be abundantly compassionate. If you make a mistake, He will automatically forgive. His love and faithfulness aren’t dependent on your performance but flow from His unchanging character.

Rest in this truth: the same God who declared his character to Moses is the same God who walks with you today, extending the same compassion, grace, patience, love, and forgiveness to you in every situation you face.

Recognizing God’s true nature is essential for developing a deeper sense of spiritual security and self-worth. It’s easy to fall into the misconception that divine love fluctuates based on personal actions, but God’s character remains constant—overflowing with love, grace, and forgiveness. Embracing this truth allows a person to receive grace fully and extend that same compassion toward themselves, fostering a sense of worthiness that is not rooted in performance but in divine acceptance.

In moments of spiritual distance or doubt, remembering God’s patience and unwavering forgiveness helps draw the heart back to Him. Grounding oneself in His unchanging nature provides a firm foundation for approaching God with confidence in every need and struggle. Living from this place of assurance allows His character (marked by unconditional love and mercy) to shine through daily interactions with others.
