Now That ‘And Just Like That’ Is Over Forever, Here Is A Final Ranking Of The Girls Based On All 9 Seasons

These ladies have been part of our lives for 27 years.

By

Sex and the City began airing on HBO in 1998. Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha became the patron saints of a new generation of women and a new era of dating (and this was before dating apps). The series ended in 2004 but the characters returned in 2021 with the revival series And Just Like That…

In total these ladies have been a part of our lives for 27 years. Sometimes we’ve loved them, many times we’ve hated them, but we respect the journey we’ve taken together. Here is our final ranking of the women of Sex and the City and And Just Like That… after the final episode aired last night (August 14). From best to worst:

Samantha Jones

Samantha is one of my favorite TV characters ever.

Samantha always was the smartest of the ladies. This extends to Kim Cattrall passing on And Just Like That. What a Queen. No Notes.

Carrie Bradshaw

This is a Carrie Bradshaw I can finally get behind.

Carrie was the worst character on Sex and the City. She was a batty, bad friend (and girlfriend) who nevertheless always managed to fail up in life. She is ranked second because she is the lead character in the series, so as much as we love to hate her, we also regular love her.

Thankfully, this final season of And Just Like That was a redemption season for Carrie. She was finally giving competent, grown woman. And when she fell for Duncan Reeves, he saw her as the accomplished writer that she is. We finally got to see a guy realize how cool it is that he got to be with Carrie Bradshaw.

Media has a difficult time showing anyone have a happy ending if they don’t end up with a partner, but Carrie eating the middle of her pie first and dancing around her gorgeous home alone was pretty satisfying after all these years.

Seema Patel

Seema was a great character.

Seema is a ball-busting, sex positive real estate broker clearly meant to replace Samantha Jones. She has felt two-dimensional at times, but the writers really stuck the landing with this character. Her final season arc has been a very enjoyable to watch as she met and fell in love with Adam the luxury gardener. Their “Bette Davis Eye” moment was possibly my favorite scene of the entire And Just Like That series (a close second was the beautiful season 2 opener set to Britney Spears’ “Hold Me Closer”).

Charlotte York Goldenblatt

The Charlotte storylines were not giving.

Charlotte became a caricature of her former self in And Just Like That. She was crippled by ridiculous storylines, but she still ranks highly because they could never make us hate you!

Lisa Todd Wexley

Lisa ate with this particular look though.

Lisa Todd Wexley enters the picture as Charlotte’s private school cool mom bestie, who balances raising three kids with supporting her husband’s race for political office while simultaneously working full-time as an award-winning filmmaker. She offers a good balance to the casts’s energy, with an adorable batty quirkiness that makes her character interesting despite not having very much to do with the storylines of the others. Unfortunately, any emotion that her scenes might inspire in a viewer are offset by the outlandishly goofball clothing she wears. If Seema got Samantha’s wry seduction and brazen love for opulence, LTW got her cartoonish “work outfits”. Yes, this is New York, where fashion knows no limits. But her fashion gives Sesame Street instead of Park Avenue and it is distracting as hell.

Miranda Hobbes

Miranda, how could you do this to me question mark.

Miranda is a cautionary tale about making good choices in life. She was a Harvard-educated lawyer who was a partner in a prestigious law firm by day and friends with one of New York City’s coolest socialites by night. She could have had the most amazing life. Instead, she dated Steve and her life slowly became unrecognizable. The worst part is Miranda didn’t only hurt herself. She created and then released a broke boy with a bad personality on the women of Brooklyn. And it spawned.
