Since launching in 2020 under its original (soon to be revived) name of HBO Max, Max has quickly earned a well-deserved reputation as a premium purveyor of binge-worthy film and TV content.

Offering an extensive array of unique titles across drama, comedy, horror, and fantasy, there’s literally no end to the amount of worthwhile content viewers can choose from in Max’s catalog. As further proof of this fact, one needn’t look much further than the incoming arrival of several notable new movies to Max, from chilling psychological horror movies to unorthodox, darkly comic drama films.

Death of a Unicorn (2025)

A24

Is Death of a Unicorn the strongest release from A24 of the past year? Hm, probably not. But there’s an undeniable appeal surrounding this imaginative dark comedy horror film, thanks in large part to the sensational performances of its ensemble cast. With Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Tea Leoni, Will Poulter, and Richard E. Grant all excelling their respective roles, Death of a Unicorn offers a unique, hilariously horrifying reimagining of our favorite mythological creatures. Death of a Unicorn lands on HBO Max on July 25.

On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (2024)

A24

As with many of A24’s releases, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl failed to garner much in the way of significant attention when it debuted to theaters earlier in 2025. In spite of that fact, this 2024 dark comedy drama might very well be the most underrated release of the past year, effortlessly asking some tough questions around family and long-held personal secrets. On Becoming a Guinea Fowl released on HBO Max on July 4.

Get Out (2017)

Blumhouse

It’s always an exciting time whenever Get Out returns to streaming, be it Peacock, Netflix, Prime Video, or, in this case, Max’s digital library. A groundbreaking psychological horror film from former comedian Jordan Peele, Get Out helps the former Key & Peele star assert his place as the current generation’s successor to Hitchcock, Craven, or Carpenter. Melding socially relevant topics with plenty of suspense-addled horror, it’s among the most awe-inspiring films of the 21st century yet. Get Out came back to HBO Max on July 1.

Sinners (2025)

Warner Bros.

Commonly hailed as one of the greatest releases of 2025 to date, Sinners more than rises to the same level of Jordan Peele’s aforementioned Get Out. Brilliantly blending social discussions around race and representation with first-rate horror, Sinners also incorporates a wholly distinct utilization of musical subject matter, giving way to a musical horror film you couldn’t forget even if you tried. Led by a remarkable soundtrack and plenty of standout performances, it’s a must-see for everyone interested in catching up on the year’s best films, with Sinners more than earning the acclaim it’s received in the months since its initial release. Sinners arrived on HBO Max on July 4.
