Ad-Free Streaming Is Even More Expensive In 2025, See Who’s Charging More

It’s no surprise that streaming has become more expensive than ever lately. If you were hoping for prices to ease up in the future, however, that’s unfortunately not the case — 2025 has already seen price hikes across the board, with more soon to come.

Plex Pass is the most recent streaming service that has decided to make a major price increase, and will be hiking prices from $4.99 to $6.99 monthly. This will also change the cost of the yearly plan from $39.99 up to $69.99.

Netflix’s ad-free plan hit an all-time high of $17.99 earlier this year, though prices are only expected to keep getting higher as the streaming giant continues to amass record-breaking viewership. Don’t forget that the Premium Netflix membership saw an increase too — all the way up to about $25 a month.

Amazon’s own Prime subscription is expected to rise in annual costs later this year, which could see an increase in costs on Prime Video (which currently charges even Prime users if they want to watch movies without ads). While you will technically have to pay more to get access to Prime Video through your Amazon Prime account alone, there is potential for the Prime Video standalone subscription cost to rise, too.

Disney+ saw its most recent price increase in October of 2024, which means that we could go some time without seeing the streaming service increase its monthly rates again. Hulu also made changes to its pricing plan in October 2024, which should give Hulu members a break in price hikes for the rest of this year ideally.

Besides Netflix, Discovery+ was the most recent streaming service to increase its rates. Fortunately, this was only from $4.99 per month to $5.99 a month, which offered just a little bit of reassurance to members.

Based on the least recent streaming services’ price hikes, it’s possible that we could see Paramount+, Peacock, and Max raising their prices again in 2025. All of these three streaming services have followed a yearly price increase in the past few years, which indicates at least a small increase on the way in 2025. 

Also on the list could potentially be Apple TV, which raised prices in 2023, but not in 2024. This means that the streaming service has held out for some time with no price increases, increasing the chances of a higher membership fee being announced later this year. 

Past pricing increases have happened primarily during summer and mid-fall, though it’s hard to predict exactly when streaming services could continue to raise their prices in 2025.
