Thought Catalog is a community of creators, bringing meaningful and beautiful ideas to life since 2010.

Who We Are

Thought Catalog’s editorial that offers decisive thinking on culture with a sharp focus on entertainment news and commentary, mental health writing and timely self-help topics.

Inspired by our founding principles, our writers ambitiously pursue professionalism, accuracy, and creativity in their work. We also aim to present all of our writing in a visual-first format and in a writing style that feels more like a text message from a friend than a college essay or press release

Started in 2008 and officially founded in 2010, Thought Catalog has consistently been at the forefront of digital media. For over a decade, we’ve been shaping conversations, riding the waves of social media algorithms, and engaging audiences on a deeply meaningful level across multiple generations.

In 2025, Thought Catalog remains as bold as ever, youthfully vibrant as at our founding, yet firmly grounded as a publishing institution. Today the Thought Catalog universe can be explored through our constantly updated flagship website, our global book publishing house Thought Catalog Books, our agency, and a sprawling array of spin-off sites operated under the Thought Catalog network.

Thought Catalog Web

Thought Catalog’s website has gone through many editorial evolutions. In the post-2010s era though, our website aims and objectives are clear:

  • Build a channel for hyper-current coverage of cultural topics, particularly TV and movies, featuring decisive hot takes and informative articles.
  • Provide an outlet for our community to express themselves, particularly through the lens of mental health and self-improvement.
  • Bring to life the most powerful and creatives ideas of our writers through video and audio projects with Thought Catalog Originals.

In other words, the Thought Catalog website is about fresh takes on the culture of our world and a deeper exploration of what is going on in the minds and lives of our most prominent writers.

Thought Catalog Books

Thought Catalog Books offers a way to publish beyond the influence of algorithms that shape the open web and social media. Through our book imprint, we focus on our editorial vision and connect with readers in a more lasting way. Read about our founding principles here and discover our books at thoughtcatalog.com/books.
