This Is The Soon-To-Be Hit Sci-Fi Series You Need To Watch Out For On Apple TV

By

May of 2025 is bringing a whole new television show that promises to be a complete smash. If you don’t already have Apple TV, this might be the series that convinces you to finally get it (at least for enough time to finish the season).

“The Murderbot Diaries,” a series by sci-fi author Martha Wells, follows the journeys of a cyborg designed only to kill in an effort to protect their human team members. Though their original programming was designed to make them follow the efforts of their governing company completely, this particular cyborg — called a SecUnit — has gained intellectual independence over their thoughts, body, and mission, contrary to what their manufacturer expects.

Throughout the series, they narrate their thoughts and adventures with their human crew — who they don’t care much for, since the cyborg unit would rather be off watching television instead of working.

The first book was released in 2017, and the series is still ongoing. Despite its unfinished status, Apple TV picked up the series to adapt into a TV show. Because each of the books are relatively short, it appears that the Apple TV series will cover more than one book in its 10-episode series.

If you’re a fan of sci-fi, action, and futuristic comedy, then “Murderbot” will most certainly be for you. With a lively cast, book-accurate costume and set design, and a beautifully-adapted plot, you can expect this series to soon become a favorite regardless of whether you’ve read the books or not.

Even better, Alexander Skarsgård — the man behind the Murderbot themselves — is also on the TV series’ production team, and he’s a big fan of the books. Much like Henry Cavill’s insistence on the “Witcher” series sticking to the plot of the books, it’s unlikely that “Murderbot” will stray from its source too far. This is just another bonus for those who love the books — and for those who haven’t yet read them, it’s also a guarantee that you’ll be watching a show with a well-adapted, canonical plot.
