Everything We To Know About Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Adaptation (Updated 3/1)

By

Christopher Nolan has decided to take the Oppenheimer approach to his next film, creating a documentary-style feature of Homer’s The Odyssey — which, while not a work of nonfiction, certainly feels like a biography of its own.

You can probably already guess that Nolan’s adaptation will spare no expense in its recreation of the original story. Set photos have already been leaked showing various actors and extras in full Greek soldier attire, while an enormous Trojan horse looms in the background.

Nolan has historically been against CGI, so it’s unlikely that The Odyssey will include much of it, either. The Odyssey plans to use its full budget of $250 million to create completely real scenes and effects for the most drama possible.

Its current release date is scheduled for July 17th, 2026. Matt Damon will play Odysseus, while the rest of the cast’s roles have not been released. It is speculated that Tom Holland will play Odysseus’s son, Telemachus. Anne Hathaway has been thought to be Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, which is also unconfirmed. Zendaya also joins the cast (some believe that she will play the goddess Athena or the witch Circe), and Elliot Page returns for his second time in a Nolan film. Robert Pattinson will also be returning to his second Nolan movie after his lead role in “Tenet.”

There is a wide range of gods, goddesses, soldiers, and suitors for Nolan to cover in his casting — with nearly the entire range of well-known Greek gods, goddesses, demi-gods, and mythical creatures coming into play, not to mention the 100 suitors waiting for Odysseus back home and the more than 100 of Odysseus’s soldiers starting off the journey at the beginning of the movie.

Despite the fact that the film is slated to release in 2026, filming has only just begun. A trailer is expected to be released later on when enough of filming has been completed. Estimates believe that The Odyssey will wrap up filming at the end of April. There is a small possibility for release date delays, given the fact that filming has not yet been completed, but given the buildup for the movie’s release, a significant delay is (hopefully) unlikely.
