There Are 8 Billion People In The World And Somehow I Met You

By

The world is a huge place, but so often we get caught up with our lives that we forget how we are just one in 8 billion. But each one of us are ONE in a billion—ever so special, ever so unique. Irreplaceable—that’s what we truly are. If ever you feel small and inadequate at any point in your life, remember that you are so important because there is a cause and effect for every decision you make and every step that you do or do not take. The sun rises and sets daily, the stars shine brightly at night, and time trickles away by the second as it should, and like the sun, stars, and time—you are exactly where you are meant to be, doing what you are doing as you should.

The same applies to any one person who has ever had even the slightest presence in your life. We all have a purpose and a part to play in this huge play that humans have termed “life.” As the famous Shakespeare quotes goes, “All the world’s a stage / And all the men and women merely players / They have their exits and their entrances / And one man in his time plays many parts.”

But here’s the thing, though. Knowing all that doesn’t make loss and hurt in any form any better. I know that there’s an expiry date to everything—one’s life, a relationship, a can of sardines on a shelf in a grocery store. It’s a known fact. Nothing lasts forever. But knowing and coming to terms with loss and hurt are two completely different things.

To this day, I still ask myself: Of all the lives of 8 other billion people in this world, why was it mine you had to walk into? And of all 7.9 billion other feelings to trample upon, why did you choose mine? Were you doing exactly as you should? Just as the sun rises and the stars shine? Oh, If ever I could have known, I’d show you out the door politely and tell you that there are 7.9 billion other lives to ruin. Please, I would’ve begged, all but mine. But I couldn’t have known.

But out of all 8 billion lives in the world, you came into mine just as you should’ve, with sweet nothings and empty promises. You then also left just as you should’ve, with my heart shattered in bits and pieces.

They say there is a time and place for everything and that there is always a lesson to be learned for everything that happens in one’s life. This is in no way a justification for what you have done. There will never be a valid justification for the pain that you’ve caused. How rare of a privilege it is, to meet one in 8 billion. You had a choice to walk away without causing pain, but you chose otherwise.

But lest you forget, you are part of a huge ecosystem, with decisions resulting in different causes and effects. Everything you decide has implications which will catch up to you eventually. Some call this Karma, and if you haven’t already heard, Karma’s a bitch.

Well, It’s all in the past, and I’m a stronger person now. But before you go, I’d like for you to know. There are 8 billion people in the world all just trying to survive, all trying to get through the day one second at a time. Meeting one in 8 billion is a blessing in disguise. If you could just show a little bit of kindness, you’d sleep better at night.
