8 Beauty Picks You Need This Winter From The Professionals

By

Winter is coming. Actually, it totally arrived this morning. How do we know? Well, there’s all that snow on the ground, accompanied by some seriously plummeting temps. There’s also the unfortunate return of dry skin and chapped lips. And, after all the glitz and glam of our holiday and New Year’s Eve makeup, we can’t help but feel a bit dull.
But, you’re not doomed to a sad, dully, flakey fate for the next few months. We hit up some of our favorite makeup artists in NYC to help us get out of our cosmetic rut. Ahead, eight pros give us the cold-weather products they just can’t live without. Consider this your winter-beauty salvation.

1. Tamah

The one beauty product I can’t live without in winter is Annee de Mamiel Winter Facial Oil. It’s a botanical based, all natural, 100% organic hydrating oil. I like to apply it just out of the shower onto damp skin. It isn’t greasy and absorbs quickly. It’s incredibly nourishing, and smells like a dream; literally, the smell alone is soothing, warming, and comforting! It’s great on its own and can also be layered under your favorite moisturizer. It’s a face saver! — Tamah

De Mamiel Autumn Facial Oil, $98.54, available at Cult Beauty.

2. Katie Mellinger

Winter is tough on the skin. Makeup application can become a tiring process layering product after product in order to protect myself from the elements and achieve a perfect complexion. Moisturizer! Primer! Sunscreen! Foundation! After a while, I feel like my skin is drowning in an ocean of products screaming, ‘Hey idiot, I can’t breathe down here!’ Tarte’s BB Tinted Treatment solves my problems. It gives just the right amount of coverage in one fell swoop, and it leaves my skin feeling silky and smooth. I also love that it’s natural, cruelty-free, and vegan, so not only am I not suffering for beauty, but neither are all the cute, furry animal babies out there. — Katie Mellinger

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen, $34, available at Tarte.

3. Merrell Hollis

Winters in New York can leave your skin looking dull and missing the warmth of the sun. My trick for giving healthy-looking skin when the temperatures drop is to mix a dab of the Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer in with my foundation. It gives my clients a beautiful, luminous glow no matter what the temperature is outside. — Merrell Hollis

Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer, $28, available at Sephora.

4. Kim Weber

Shu Uemura Classic Cleansing Oil is my year-round go to. In the winter, however, when I’m super dry, I switch over to good old classic Pond’s Cold Cream. Sometimes after removing it, I’ll leave it on as a mask for some added hydration. — Kim Weber

Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser, $4.49, available at Drugstore.com.

5. James Vincent

Because I live in an NYC apartment where I cannot control the heat and I wake up each morning with the driest skin and lips before facing the streets full of 8 million people with germs, my favorite winter-proofing product is Ardency Inn Boom Base. This lip balm polishes and protects the lips by softening and hydrating. It also has peppermint oil as an antibacterial and helps to heal dry or flaking lips. For women who wear lipstick, Boom Base also blurs fine lines, helps lipstick stay put, and prevents feathering. As a makeup artist, I keep one for myself and another in my kit for every application. — James Vincent

Ardency Inn Boom Base Lip Balm and Base, $24, available at Sephora.

6. Cyndle Komarovski

My favorite winter product is Tata Harper Nutrient Complex. It’s a multivitamin for your skin and provides an extra layer of moisture to protect against the harsh winter elements and indoor heating. It will improve your skin’s overall luster and gives you back that summer glow. — Cyndle Komarovski

Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex, $45, available at Sephora.

7. Hung Vanngo

Tatcha Enriching Renewal Cream: It keeps my face super hydrated. This cream promotes microcirculation, preventing and reversing the signs of premature aging. — Hung Vanngo

Tatcha Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream, $185, available at Tatcha.

8. Brigitte Reiss-Andersen

Shiseido White Lucent Mask. It gives back moisture to the skin and revitalizes it during the cold months of the year. — Brigitte Reiss-Andersen

Shiseido White Lucent Power Brightening Mask, $68, available at Sephora.
