When You’re A 20-Something-Year-Old And Still Single

Life as a 20-something-year-old isn’t easy
I get up, go to work, go home, and repeat
Some days don’t seem to feel real, though
Other days I feel that my life is on hold

Being a single 20-something-year-old isn’t easy
Many people around me are either engaged or married
Others are already having kids
I feel like I’m already behind

As if being a single 20-something-year-old wasn’t already hard enough
Never had my first kiss
Never had my first relationship
Never had my first real date, either

It isn’t easy when life passes me before my eyes
I’m not getting any younger
Time is flowing by
People are starting to wonder

But that is when I realized
It shouldn’t matter
It shouldn’t matter to anyone
It shouldn’t matter to me

Being a single 20-something-year-old isn’t bad
In fact, it’s a lot of fun
To be young
And to not worry about what your supposed partner is doing

I figured out that I’m not the only one
I’m not the only 20-something-year-old
Who’s still living the single life
At a young age

At this time and at my age
I have so much ahead in my life
A life filled with potential and possibilities
A life filled with fun

Life isn’t a race
So why should I be the first to cross the finish line
A line that is a dead end
A dead end to me

At this time and at my age
I shouldn’t be looking
Looking for the perfect partner
I should be looking for myself

As a 20-something-year-old living the single life
I have all the time in the world
To wait for the one I’ll be with forever in this life
But for now, I am just focusing on myself
