Leaning On God With Cerebral Palsy

By

Each and every day that I wake up I always go by this Scripture: Matthew 19:26. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

When I first heard Matthew 19:26, I felt something deep in my heart as that scripture was meant for me to carry since I was born with a condition called cerebral palsy that is caused by brain damage or premature birth, and it causes me to be entirely wheelchair bound for the rest of my life. Needless to say, from the time I was born the odds were stacked up against me.

Doctors said I wouldn’t live past 24 hours, but somehow, someway God had different plans for me than what the doctors intended.

Although my journey has consisted of many obstacles and challenges along the way, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love the way God has made me with cerebral palsy. Although some days are more comfortable than others, every night before I go to bed, I’ll pray to our Lord and tell Him, “Thank you for making this way.”

Thank you for giving me a voice to speak up for 17 million people who have cerebral palsy. Thank you for guiding me on the path I needed to get on, especially when doctors didn’t give me the best news.

I thank God for giving me the strength and mindset to make it through another day with cerebral palsy, but most all I thank Him for making me this way.

Growing with cerebral palsy wasn’t comfortable. Dealing with society altogether was hard, coping with stereotyping and bullying, but I always remember that God was on my side even though it may not have seemed like it.

He was there by my side watching over me, and I’m thankful that He was because if it weren’t for Him, I don’t think I would have made it in life. As a woman of Christ, I walk by His faith each and every day, and I remember that I have a purpose in life. With each word I type I have people to inspire.

When there’s an obstacle in my way, I remember Matthew 19:26: Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
