Can Friendship Break Your Heart The Most?

It’s almost scary these days, to let someone in. To bring your fears and insecurities to the surface. To let someone see who you really are.

To trust them.

And the worst part is that you’ll never know when to trust someone, until you just do.

We wear our hearts on our sleeves and trust away.

Then comes the point where a person becomes an integral part of you and your happiness. This is when your mind gets convinced that life without them isn’t possible. When your mind starts reassuring to you that they will be there for you.

Through thick and thin.

Ironic how your friends acquire the strength to break you, isn’t it? Yet that trust we built for them, tells us to still keep them by our side. Oh silly heart, if only you knew then what you know now. That some people will seem to love you and care for you so much. When the truth is that they only love what you offer to them.

Sometimes friendship can break your heart the most.

It broke my heart. When the friend(s) I would do anything for, simply walked away when I was drowning. These people made me question why I even let them past my walls in the first place? Why did I show them my vulnerability? Only to be slapped by their arrogance.

Life has put me through the same cycle too many times and I started to hate life for doing so. But one day I had realized, that life was trying to teach me a lesson, which I stubbornly refused to learn the first time.

Life was not showing me that friendship is painful, it was trying to show me that people aren’t always who they seem to be. That people will sometimes deceive you for their benefits. That some will lie and play along for what you offer them.

Can friendship break your heart the most? True friendship, never.

But a friend who was never a friend? That’s a little heartbreaking. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
