The “flash mobs” hold their origins in party crews – groups of bored teenagers who, instead of sitting around and complaining about not having anything to do, would instead hit up all of their friends, get a little cash from everyone, throw a party, and then invite other people and charge them for admission.
I’d like to defend Vancouver – best I can – when I say that a majority of the Canucks’ REAL fans were not the ones wreaking havoc in the downtown core Wednesday night. The rioters have been misrepresented around the world as angry and gypped Canuck fan die-hards. This representation, fueled by photos of jersey-wearing imbeciles, is vastly incorrect.
Vancouver is ethnically diverse, but everyone shares the Canucks. Indeed, during Game 5, the arena seemed less of a sporting venue than a mega-church. And on the streets afterwards, you could hardly move – it was a roiling, animal energy.
