Since you are a part of it, you ought to know what rape culture is.
Take this in: rape culture exists because we as people like to think that it does not.
Because every single day is a fight, even if you don’t see it.
How does a sexual assailant permit themselves that behavior when they exist in the same society we all exist in? Didn’t they know it was wrong? The answer is hinted at in how they word their denials.
Let’s say this loud, so even the people in the back can hear us. RAPE. IS. NOT. FUNNY.
We need to improve our understanding of the long term effects of sexual assault, and offer continued support to survivors.
Never, ever ask the victim questions like, “What were you wearing?” I often tell people that if I walk down the street naked, it is not an invitation to have sex with me and it is certainly not consent.
The problem with shoving things under the rug is that they are still present. These things will continue to cause issues unless we deal with them.
Why aren’t we, as consumers and members of the community, questioning that?
“I was raped multiple times as a child and I’ve never had a real friend in my life.”
