A motivation is not really essential for this story. There is a man, and he has a kite, and that is all. We will note in passing that the man is wearing slacks and a dress shirt with a tie — and no jacket — but that is all. His tie is fluttering in the wind, but this simply means that is it a good day for kite-flying.
I flip through an old copy of The New Yorker until you call. Anxious. Taking in what I can — the cartoons, the poems, the first two pages of a seven page feature. You ask me what my parents do (because we are working from the inside out and always will be).
