Maybe Hannah Baker is just like me. Maybe she’s just like any of us. The only difference between us is she had enough reasons for taking her own life.
Although the stigma of mental health has decreased, the romanticization and stereotypes of mentally ill people – especially those with depression – seem to remain the same.
We need to remember this: People are not taking their own lives because of the attention they’ll get when they’re dead. People are taking their own lives because THEY DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE.
Life can be a struggle and there will inevitably be tough times, but you will survive them. You are loved and this world needs you and your unique contributions.

A lot of people ask me why I am depressed. Or what was so bad that it turned into this ball of dark smoke in my heart. Now I know, it’s never one thing. It’s all the little things building up to be a giant monster that swallows you alive.
