Nothing makes me happier than happy customers who just like to chat and be friendly. Those are the customers I want to keep checking in on and going back to because they’re kind. Kindness is everything in life folks and guess what? It’s free!
Let’s get one thing straight. Waiters and waitresses exist to serve food. We are not eye candy. We do not work this job to be ogled.
“This is probably not only the worst thing I’ve done in my career, it’s also the worst thing I’ve ever done in my life. I (very lightly) spiked one of the kids’ sprites. I just threw in the tiniest bit of vodka, because it’s odorless.”
Not everyone is poor because they’re lazy or stupid or just didn’t try hard enough. There’s this deeply embedded belief in our country that poor people somehow deserve to be poor, and it’s amazing to me how blindly people believe this.
When you you are tempted to belittle someone, take a second to get the know the person on a deeper level first.
For whatever reason this profession attracts people who are fiercely loyal. Once you’re friends they WILL have your back, no matter what.
Obviously there are going to be customers that come in and are just plain rude or complain about the dumbest things, but there are actually more good people out there than I thought.
Every worker has a story.
Starbucks is a big company. It can afford you to remake drinks and give away free drinks all the time. So if the customer has any complaint, just give them a free drink or offer to remake their drink.
“Hi! How’s it going? Can I get you something to drink?”
