My fear of missing out was magnified by the fact that I did not trust myself or value my intuition enough to follow it let alone listen to what it had to say. I was consumed with missing out on things that weren’t even part of my internal value system and obsessed with being socially excluded.
If someone tells you that your hair looks great, you will respond by insulting yourself – “It looks really greasy today!” Being unable to receive compliments is a sign of insecurity, as it indicates that you don’t think that you deserve to be complimented.
Stop watching the snap stories you know will make you upset, get off of Twitter for the day and don’t scroll through Instagram double tapping everything for once. Stop pondering what you life would be like if you could do this or that. The only thing you should be concerned with is yourself and what makes you happy.
Fear Of Missing Out is a disease that’s quickly becoming an epidemic. I’m not sure if it existed before the Internet though. God, I long for the days when ignorance was truly an option. Like people would hang out without you all the time but how the hell would you ever know about it?
At first, hearing about the shows, parties, and ridiculousness of it all was entertaining – something I could live through vicariously. But after the first two days, and the seventy-seventh time I scrolled past yet another blog post on some awesome show where everyone was wasted on margaritas by noon, I was starting to get bummed. Or annoyed. Most likely a mixture of both.
