Up on the West Side Highway, we met neighbors of Jami’s and stood near a radio. First everyone sang “We Are the World,” then “Hands Across America.” It was kind of touching to see people of every race and age holding hands, but I wonder if it will do any good other than to make the participants feel better about themselves.

Thanksgiving in Canarsie was wonderful. It was the night before Thanksgiving a dozen years ago when Ronna and I had our first date (Chloe in the Afternoon at the Midwood Theatre and then to the Foursome Diner for a bite; Ronna had the sniffles and wore a blue turtleneck). Who would have imagined we’d still be this close?
Teresa called from Fire Island, where she ended up calling the police to try to force a defiant Carol out of the house. I was disturbed to hear that things had gotten so out of hand. The police couldn’t talk Carol into leaving, so the war between the women just escalated.
