The Uncomfortable Truth About Being A Feminist In This World

By

you tell me to be quiet because

my thoughts and words

diminish my femininity

but i was not born with a tongue

ready to wield artillery

so you could swallow my words

armed with meekness
for your security

you tell me to shrink

to sacrifice everything for you

when i was birthed by a generation of women

who have sacrificed everything for me

so here i stand

my spine erect

as their courage

flows through my every vein

cloaking my body

in an indestructible armor

you tell me what i should think

what i should do

what i should feel

and what i am worth

as you try to bury me under the rubble

but i will always arise

from the remains of ashes

because my resilience is never silent
