Here goes the if-I-could-go-back-in-time moment where I just want to rewind to those days when my biggest problem was how to properly put on eye-liner. What would I not give to be able to go back and tell my younger self that it will all be okay. That she’ll make it. That she made it.
1. I’m sorry.
For getting you in trouble, for letting people scream at you, for not studying enough to pass that subject, for deciding to go past your better judgment and getting hurt. There are so many wrong moves I had done and I couldn’t take them back, and for those, I’m sorry.
2. You’re enough.
You don’t need anyone or anything to prove your worth. What you are is enough.
3. Stay Strong.
It gets hard, I know. Hope has gone out of the window, and what is left for you to hold on to now? But you have to stay strong. Nobody else will do that for you. You have to outlive the battles of everyday – brawl, wrangle, tussle, scuffle if you have to. Your only weapon is yourself – and in this battlefield called life, you have to make it out alive.
4. Be patient.
There really is a time for everything. You will just have to wait patiently for the good things to happen in your life. Believe me they will.
5. Have fun.
Please don’t let your world revolve around your grades and your co-curricular activities, there is so much more to life than making yourself believe that your achievements measure your value.
6. Slow down.
Listen to me when I tell you to slow the hell down. Don’t rush things. These moments you have right now, they will never, ever happen again. You will only be left with memories. So make the most of “now”.
7. Make mistakes.
Remember the time when you microwaved the last bar of chocolate you found in the fridge and it turned hard as stone? I know how shitty that was, but someday you will look back and realize that those mistakes you’ve made, no matter how big or small they are, taught you lessons that you will carry for the rest of your life.
8. Wake Up.
Don’t allow yourself to sink because of the weight of everything. Sometimes it will be okay not to care. Not because you just don’t care, it’s because you just can’t care anymore.
9. Have faith.
Trust the plans God has in store for you. As Mother Teresa would say it, “In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
10. Love yourself.
Do I really need to explain this to you?
