For The Girl Who Has Never Been Pursued

Greg Raines

It’s not that you don’t have love to give, there is just no one to take it.

You have so much life in your bones. You work hard at whatever it is you chose to pursue. The level of commitment and time you put into everything is extremely apparent.

You don’t wish harm onto others. Respectfully you give people their space. Listen when they need an ear. Seek to learn about them at a reasonable pace.

Nothing about you is clingy; you live your own life and follow your own values. You’ve even been the first to initiate conversation on many occasions. Not because you want something, but because you’re curious.

You constantly continue to evolve and expand as a person independently. You’ve spent time discovering who you are, what you like, and how to become better. You take good care of yourself. And for some reason, no one has come around to see the value you see in yourself.

You keep a level head and don’t compromise your standards should you find that person doesn’t live up to them. But this means a lot of people you are interested in will slip through the cracks.

It’s not really anything you have a say in. Throughout this life, you will find many people you are attracted to don’t carry on a conversation. Or jump out of their comfort zone to approach you. Perhaps they will tell you why, or they will just disappear.

Either way, you do no one but yourself harm when you let rejection hold you back or make you feel small.

If you think about it, people do this dance all over the world. Every day there is a story being formed about an unrequited affection. You may even have been the rejecter on occasion. If you haven’t yet, you will soon. And when you do, you may never realize the effect you had on the rejected person. Just like the one who rejected you didn’t.

Don’t beat yourself up. There is no fate-sealing flaw or divine intervention that causes this to happen to you.

The chances are greater that the person you liked just wasn’t compatible with you. In which case, allow them to leave and make way for someone better. Keep doing you. It takes a special eye to recognize true beauty, and an even stronger will to pursue it. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
