Body image. Two of the most terrifying words we hear. It doesn’t matter what gender you are, those two words can be almost debilitating. They can also mean nothing if you have the confidence to render them powerless.
We live in a tough world when it comes to loving ourselves. That’s the way it has always been. But hopefully, that’s not the way it will always be. We have so many opportunities happening around us, we just have to open our eyes and actually look at them. Plus size models. Sure, we can look at the fact that they should just be called models. But let’s look at the positives and rejoice in the fact that plus-sized anything is being featured.
Sure, we hear you in the back that plus size is nothing to celebrate. But we respectfully disagree. Let’s get rid of the stereotypes and just be our own beautiful selves. No more of this Americans are fat, Asians are slim, this nationality is this, this nationality is that. Sure, genetics can play a part in how we look. But only we can decide how we let it control us. So are you going to be ashamed of yourself? Or are you going to go out and own it? We choose to own it.
Whether you’re a size 6 or a size 16, you’re beautiful. We judge ourselves more harshly than anyone else can ever judge us. So stop staring in the mirror and scrutinizing whatever imperfections you think you have and start realizing all the beauty you are locking down inside. We can’t expect others to love us if we don’t love ourselves. That doesn’t just mean significant others either. It includes friends, family, and coworkers as well.
Life is short. We’ve all heard it. But we don’t all understand it. Are you going to hate on yourself for the next 30 plus years? Or are going to go out, achieve great things, and be happy with yourself for the next 30 years? Being happy sounds pretty good to us, but the choice is yours.
