It’s okay to be alone. In fact, time spent alone is time in which you look back, and you will wish you had more of.
Time alone, means time for you to think, to regroup, to understand that there is a strange solace in the quiet.
I know what it feels like to be lonely. But lonely is good. Lonely means you feel, lonely means you’re in touch with your feelings, you’re vulnerable, and you’re human.
When you grow up, and life starts to get chaotic, you will crave for space, for time away from the chaos, for time alone.
To tell you the truth, when I see someone having lunch alone, I think those people are the best kinds of people. Confident in who they are, confident in their own skin, confident enough to find strength in being alone. If you can stand strong alone, you are stronger than the ones that find strength in numbers. Because then, those numbers can only build you up; they can never tear you down, because even without them, you’re strong.
I know that the quiet can be scary, the quiet can be violent. It may not be easy to face yourself, but it’s a necessary process. How can anyone be with you if you cannot be with yourself?
Who are you when you’re alone, not surrounded by your friends? Who are you when you’re alone, unmasked and raw? Who are you when you’re alone, in the quiet and the darkness? Who are you when you’re alone, surrounded only by the noises of life around you?
There is a strange peace to the silence, a raw serenity to it. It is a blissful thing to be alone. To be able to bask in your own company, to take time out of life and to simply, be. Too many people rely on the company of others to get by, but you will begin to notice things you never do when you’re not surrounded by the distractions of others.
It’s okay to sit alone at the cafe, sipping that latte, watching the world go by, or reading that book you’ve always wanted to read. It’s okay to go to the library alone, exploring shelf after shelf, getting lost in words. It’s okay to say no to your friends and stay in and enjoy your own company for the night. It’s okay to be alone. It’s completely okay, and it’s completely necessary.
I know they say there is strength in numbers but what they failed to say is that there is quiet power in solitude.
