5 Fictional Characters I Would Befriend In Real Life

1. Kimmy Gibbler from Full House

Historically, sitcoms have operated under the idea that the sidekick is funnier than the star (ex: Six versus Blossom, Rhoda versus Mary). Iconic 90?s television hit, Full House, stayed faithful to this formula by creating the life-altering character of Kimmy Gibbler. Playing the best friend of D.J. Tanner, Kimmy became best known for her brilliant insults and insane fashions. Whereas D.J. was better known for her moralistic behavior and her predilection towards stress eating, Gibbler was the wild card, bursting into the Tanner’s house and ripping everyone a much deserved new asshole. And her clothes…there’s almost no words. Poofy dresses, brightly-colored tights, obnoxious accessories. Her outfits defied logic/any kind of tasteful sensibilities. Kimmy would often resemble a conceptual art piece rather than an actual human being. Genius.

2. Karen Walker from Will & Grace

Even though Will & Grace is a problematic show at best, Karen Walker brought new life into every scene she was in with her hilarious one-liners, possible bisexuality, and penchant for boozing and taking pills. She was the couture of camp—a gay man’s nocturnal emission—and even though her character was the most outlandish, she somehow managed to be the most real. Will’s neuroses were grating, Jack was a gay caricature summoned from the media devils, and Grace was a redheaded desperado. But Karen? She was just right.

3. Amber from Clueless

Clueless is all about Amber and don’t try to tell me anything different. Every time she appears on-screen, she’s in some hilariously hideous outfit and mocked mercilessly by Tai, Cher, and Dionne. But you know what? I think they’re just jealous of Amber’s fashion bravery. Today, Cher is probably having sex with her stepbrother and laying by the pool so bored while Amber’s working at French Vogue and doing a ton of coke. I’m into that. I respond to that. Go on with your bizarre self, Amber. And always remember that if Cher doesn’t do her assignment, you can’t do yours.

4. Any character Taryn Manning has ever played

I have a sick obsession with Taryn Manning. If left untreated, the doctors told me I could develop a raspy voice and lose all of my talent. But I don’t pay attention to their warnings because my love for Taryn is real. Whether she’s playing a hooker in Hustle & Flow, a pregnant white trash chick in Crossroads, or a rich drunk nightmare in Crazy/Beautiful, she always manages to steal my heart and get it a little drunk too. Right now, her career is in a really #dark place because she’s attempting to be a singer but we know she’ll get her shit together and find her way back. She has to.

5. Valerie Cherish from The Comeback

Okay, being friends with Valerie Cherish would actually be a nightmare but it would be cool for maybe a day. Her character is so delusional and narcissistic that it would almost be a blast. You do that sometimes, right? Hang out with really awful people for fun? Please don’t tell me I am the only one. Shoot.
