I'm Not A Trampy Cheating Harlot

By

Last night I had a dream that I cheated on my boyfriend.

Does anyone else have dreams where they’ve completely made up a person and a location? I dreamed that I cheated on him with a man living next door to my parents. But I dreamed his home was located in our cow pasture on the same side of the road as our home. Definitely no house there and definitely no unidentified man. That detail I remember. Next I remember my mouth being extremely dry. I then remember feeling extremely guilty and unsure of what I’d do next. That was when I woke up extremely relieved that it had all been a dream. This morning I first tell my boyfriend about the dream who asks “Who was it? Was he worth it?” I have no idea. I don’t actually remember the act. He then reassured me and told me to “Go easy on yourself.” Now that I’m awake, I sure can. Next I consulted Google.

Okay, first of all it is hilarious that with the new Google as I begin typing “what does it mean…” someone else has clearly already been there and done this as it finishes my thought with “cheat on your boyfriend in a dream?” So apparently others have adulterous dream lives just like I do. The first site here didn’t have many answers… just the traditional “you have to analyze what’s going on in your life to interpret the real meaning…” I believe this, I just don’t know what it could all have anything to do with. I did mention cheating on my boyfriend last night when I walked past a barbecue. Side note: I first spelled barbecue as “barbeque” because apparently I definitely thought there was a “q” involved since we abbreviate BBQ all the time. But I digress, I told him I’d probably cheat on him for a steak or a burger. I don’t think you understand just how good it smelled. So perhaps it was still on my mind once I fell asleep. I also went to bed reading The Carrie Diaries (don’t judge me) by Candace Bushnell and although I don’t think it happened until I resumed reading this morning, one of the characters cheats on her boyfriend (wouldn’t want to spoil it for those of you who may read it). So maybe my mind was just full of infidelity.

Here’s what my Google search about cheating on your boyfriend led me to:

To dream that you are cheating on your significant other, suggests feelings of self-guilt and self-betrayal. You may have compromised your beliefs or integrity and/or wasting your energy and time on fruitless endeavors. Alternatively, cheating dreams reflect the intensity of your sexual passion; you are exploring areas of your sexuality. In this scenario, the dream may actually serve as a reaffirmation of your commitment.

I don’t really think so. I mean, I don’t really feel that I’ve betrayed myself and I certainly didn’t feel that way in the dream. Next!

Those cheating-without-realizing-it dreams are very frustrating, but not to worry. They don’t mean that there is a trampy, cheating harlot inside, waiting to break free! You are getting these dreams because you are probably giving your time, attention, and affection to something that does not involve your boyfriend. Do you sometimes work too much or find yourself going on and on about work, much to your boyfriend’s dismay? The fact that you are getting these dreams means you are aware and sensitive to something that is causing your boyfriend to feel left out, or something that is causing him to feel “cheated” out of his time with you.

Good. My checklist of life does not contain “become ‘trampy, cheating harlot.'” But now I do have a goal. I work hard, but I think I have some balance, right? Here’s what my Dream Dictionary had to say:

… if you were the cheater, you can expect to be cheated.

So, this dry mouth… does it simply mean I was thirsty? It’s difficult to say. I couldn’t find much information on this dream. Apparently everyone else is dreaming of cheating on their boyfriends but not of having a dry mouth while doing it.

There’s something you need in your life and it is worrying you. I think you are stressing over something. It will pass soon though.

I need a lot of things. Good to know everything will pass soon. Next!

You maybe are dehydrated and need more water in you.

Yes, maybe I’m “dehydrated.” Maybe this person should stick to a regular dictionary instead of a dream dictionary. Dry mouth remains a mystery.

Perhaps this wasn’t the best way to analyze a dream, but like horoscopes, I pick and choose what I like. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have The Facts of Life. So maybe I’m a workaholic who isn’t satisfied with the work I’m doing, neglecting my boyfriend. But I’m definitely not a trampy, cheating harlot. I’ll take two out of three.
