4 Of The Best Films That Are All About Sex

By

Shame (2011)

Cast: Michael Fassbender, Carrie Mulligan
Director: Steve McQueen
Shame happens to be my favorite movie of all time, this is a movie that most people don’t know about and that sucks because this is one of the best films ever made. The story revolves around Brandon (Fassbender) a sex addicted New York business man, whose life revolves around watching porn, masturbating, paying live cam girls to strip, and fucking escorts. This is the life he chose and the day to day routine is what keeps him stable, but when his younger sister Sissie (Mulligan) unexpectedly moves in, it breaks that routine and ulttimety leads them both on a downward spiral. Sex is treated like a drug in this film, near the end you really see the desperate attempts of a lonely man trying to get his fix, whether it’s finding online hookups, bar pickups or resorting to a gay bar it doesn’t matter to him as long as he gets it. It’s not just the graphic sex that makes this film unforgettable it’s the brooding soundtrack, beautiful shots of the city at night, and Oscar worthy acting that make this film one you should see.

Blue is the Warmest Color (2013)

Cast: Lea Seydoux, Adele Exachopoulos
Director: Abdellatif Kechiche
An unforgettable movie, this is the most realistic portrayal of a relationship probably ever put on film, from the passionate sex to the boredom and wandering thoughts about sleeping with other people it really captures everything involved in a relationship. Adele is a young bi-curious girl who hookups with a blue haired girl named Emma at a bar, the movie covers years of their lives together and with a three hour runtime it shows everything about them. To sum up the movie, Adele is young and needs sex, Emma is more of the intellectual type who’s trying to become an artist and isn’t solely relying on sex, since Adele is only attached to the sex she’s in relationship that’s doomed to failure. A lot of controversy surrounded the film due to the large number of sex scenes that leave nothing to the imagination. These sex scenes can go on for five minutes at a time, what they show on screen will surprise you but its true love making. If you have a Netflix account you should definitely watch this when you get a chance.

Palo Alto (2013)

Cast: Emma Roberts, Jack Kilmer, James Franco
Director: Gia Coppola
This isn’t entirely about sex, it’s more about three love stories all connected but sex is what keeps them all together. The film has multiple stories. April (Roberts) is a quiet girl who’s in a relationship with her soccer coach, but April has strong feelings with Teddy (Kilmer) who is serving community service after an underage drinking incident. His friend Fred is living a destructive life and happens to seeing the schools biggest whore Emily. Palo Alto is Gia Coppola’s first film an her father Francis Ford Coppola visited the set every now and then to oversee, it’s one of those underrated films that didn’t get the attention when it was released but it’s an unforgettable film that deals with the stress of being a teenager, peer pressure, boredom, lack of parenting and the complex relationships between everyone and the indie soundtrack really brings life to movie , if you watch the trailer it really gives a good idea of what the film accomplishes and you can even watch it for free if you have Amazon Prime video.

Men, Women and Children (2014)

Cast: Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner, Ansel Elgort
Director: Jason Reitman
A film about the sad private lives of parents and their children, multiple stories all connected to each other in the bigger picture. A married couple who both have secret affairs going on, their son is sexually desensitized from all the porn he watches and can only get it up by being roughly dominated during sex. A star football player becomes a recluse after his parents’ divorce and now only plays videogames on his laptop. A girl who has an overprotective mother that watches her every move online and tracks every step and a mom story who is trying to get her daughter internet famous in hopes of landing a TV show, running has a website where she sells scantily clad pictures of her daughter in erotic positions for a price. This is a sad movie that deals with adultery, porn, suicide and the dangers of social media. The standout story that I feel is reason enough to watch is Adam Sandler’s and Rosemarie Dewitt’s story, he finds his wife’s laptop open and sees her Ashley Maddison profile. After the initial shock he goes through the messages and reads everything but never really brings it up to her. It’s harsh and anyone who has been cheated on knows how devastating that feeling is and they captured that emotion on film perfectly. If you Have Prime or Netflix you should watch this when you get a chance, it’ll surprise you.
