11 Ways To Wear A Bag, According To Fashion

By

1. One-shoulder backpack style.

Hold it as you would hold a backpack, if you were only using one shoulder strap. Prada did that for their latest collection, and it killed.

2. Necklace style.

In Spring 2012, Jil Sander’s then-designer Raf Simons had some of his models wear bags around their neck. This past fashion week, the style was revived in the new Moschino collection inspired by McDonalds and designed by Jeremy Scott.

3. Grasping-the-chain style.

Plainly traditional in style, Marc Jacobs’ bag-holding preference is to hang the bag off of one shoulder, grasping the chain-linked straps with your hand.

4. Holding the backpack straps.

This year Lanvin asked us all to do them a favor and chuck our corduroy backpacks for fur ones. But even if you somehow can’t get your hands on a fur backpack (the horror), you can still mimic their style of holding a backpack: think Bianca Stratford a la 10 Things I Hate About You thumb-looping the straps of her Prada backpack.

5. The IDGAF style.

Fendi’s chosen style was nothing but IDGAF in nature. The girls held the bag as if they had just entered a dinner party, waiting to be able to put it down, with the strap hanging lazily off, and all the while everything cloaked in fur.

6. On a silver tray.

The reaction “but, why?” begs another, follow-up question: “why the F not?”

7. The lady-holding-a-tote style.

As evidenced by this past Dior show, you really can never go wrong with the classic top strap grab. Very respectable; very entrepreneur.

8. The sideways at-the-hip style.

As the maxim goes, “I think therefore I Céline, therefore I wear bags sideways.” Don’t ask why, just ogle and do it. But if you have to ask, it’s because it’s effortless and tugs at my heartstrings.

9. The close-to-my-heart style.

Like Carven’s effect on me, the bags were worn close to the models’ hearts. They seem to be going for a Lolita-like motif with the innocent-looking silk and fur embellishments and, of course, I dig it.

10. The my-bag-is-heavy-so-I-have-to-prop-it-up style.

Chloé, for the terribly pretty gal, made a bag to match for their fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection. The models clutched onto the bottom, as if almost afraid someone from the front row would run up and seize it. And I can’t say I blame them.

11. The “taxiiiiii!!” style.

She looks like a bad-ass Carrie Bradshaw-type who, perhaps in a rush, snatched her bag by the top small strap and ran off to hail a cab. Of course when the bag in question is made by Acne and the small strap fur, the bad-ass Carrie Bradshaw is more likely to be hailing a horse drawn carriage.
