This Is How I Let Him Go

“I can’t stay anymore. I am sorry.” He said over the phone.

“Will you meet me one last time before leaving?” I asked.

“Sure.”

“Meet me where we first met in about an hour.” I said.

There he stood, his hands in the pockets of his jeans and looking down.

As I walked nearer to him, my heart started to feel heavier and my steps became shorter. I somehow managed to reach there. Looking into his eyes my eyes started to fill with tears.

I just looked at him for a moment, trying to register how he looked, for the last time.

Soon I noticed him becoming a little uncomfortable, so I looked away from his ever shining face.

I tried to break the awkward silence between us by saying something I never expected I would have to, “I guess I did everything that I could do for you, for us. I was there for you when no one was, but I guess that wasn’t enough to make you stay. So here I stand letting you go. I must admit it will pain a lot since I loved you so much, maybe that’s why you are leaving; I guess my love was overwhelming for you.”

“I don’t really want to know why you are leaving because I know I won’t be able to take it. All I want you to know is that I will always look for you in a crowded room even when I know you aren’t there, will always hope that you think of me like I think of you, will always hope for a message from you. And most importantly, I will love you always, no matter how many souls pass by, but you will always have a special place in my heart that will remain yours, forever. I will always ask myself why couldn’t you love me, but will anyway pray that you fall in love with someone and stay happy. Oh that girl will be so lucky to be loved by you!” I ended, since I couldn’t continue anymore.

I touched his cheeks for the last time, smiling through the tears that filled my eyes. I turned around and starting walking in the other direction, hoping that he stops me and says that he can’t leave me, but knowing very well that he won’t do so.
