On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for thinking the word “submarine” was pronounced “sumbarine” until I was in sixth grade?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for forgetting on my geography test that Mississippi is actually a state, and not “just that river?”

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for running on that slippery diving board and not expecting to slip and gash my entire abdomen?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for putting that sticker on my eye like an eye patch in kindergarten and ripping my eyelashes out?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for wearing a Harry Potter costume all day in school?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for believing all of the things that you said to me?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for thinking that the world was smaller than it really is, for thinking that my existence is larger than it all?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for forgetting that the sun’s diameter is 1,391,000 km, and how stupid was I for believing that I was the only one it shined on?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for realizing that there are seven billion people on the earth, yet not accounting for 6,999,998 of them?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for answering the messages you sent me? How stupid was I for answering them within one minute? And how stupid was I for allowing those clipped words change me?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for creating a bubble for myself of which no one could penetrate, or boxing myself out with a perfect wall of damage and sadness? How stupid was I for believing that everyone would be aware, or even that everyone would be concerned with the box in which I was entrapped?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for crying?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid was I for forgetting?

On a scale of one to ten, how stupid am I for letting go?
